After Wieters Fiasco, Will Pirates Draft Sanchez?

Sep 17, 2014 2:03 AM

The Pirates famously passed on catcher Matt Wieters a few years ago, and could look to reverse that by drafting Tony Sanchez. Pittsburgh has the fifth overall pick in Tuesday night's MLB Draft, and rumors have linked them to the Boston College catcher. The Pirates took Clemson reliever Daniel Moskos over Wieters. Pittsburgh didn't shy away from drafting a player that would be tough to sign last year when they selected Pedro Alvarez.

Purke Is Looking For A Deal Like Porcello's

Oct 17, 2014 10:35 AM

MLB Draft prospect Matt Purke is reportedly looking for a deal similar to the one Rick Porcello received from the Tigers back in 2007. Porcello, the 27th pick that year, received a deal worth $7.285 million in guaranteed money, including a $3.58 million signing bonus. Both of those numbers were records for a high school pitcher. Purke, a left-handed pitcher from Klein High School in Texas, has committed to TCU.
